Currently Available Positions:

Lawyer Assistance Program Social Worker

Starting Salary: $75,000 – $90,000

The New York State Bar Association, a non-profit professional organization based in Albany, is seeking applicants for a Lawyer Assistance Program Social Worker who will provide leadership, management and oversight for the LAP program designed to support lawyers, judges, law students, and family members struggling with substance use disorders, mental health issues, or other challenges that affect their well-being and ability to practice law. This grant-funded position will also be responsible for maintaining relationships with the legal community, treatment providers and community organizations; developing and implementing services and programs; assisting in the preparation of LAP’s budget; and supervising staff.

The qualified candidate will be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Master of Social Work with at least 10 years’ experience in the evaluation and treatment of substance abuse, as well as other mental health issues. Intervention training and experience, as well as excellent communications skills, are essential. Management experience required. Some travel within New York State is required.

Section Liaison, Program & Event Manager

Starting Salary: $60,000

The New York State Bar Association, a non-profit professional association, is seeking a Section Liaison, Program & Event Manager, to provide a full range of support to multiple Association sections. Sections are self-sustaining, smaller chapters of the Association which develop initiatives to support members in various legal practice areas, including high-quality Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting Sections in achieving their goals and objectives particularly around membership retention and engagement, CLE programming, and marketing Section events and initiatives.
  • Ensuring Sections comply with NYSBA policies, including overseeing Section budgets and ensuring initiatives stay within financial guidelines and policies.
  • Serving as the communications liaison with Sections.
  • Planning and executing multi-day conferences and CLE programs, including webinars, video conferences, and webcasts.
  • Providing general administrative support to Sections.

A bachelor’s degree in business or related field, or equivalent experience is required.  Three to five years of event and meeting planning, project management, or related experience is also required. Experience working with executive boards of associations or non-profit organizations is a plus. Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail in a fast-paced environment; ability to work in a team environment and with a diverse membership; proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite; and strong written and oral communication skills are required.

The position is located in Albany and requires travel for multi-day events several times per year. A hybrid office/remote schedule may be available.

Senior Accountant

Starting Salary: $50,000 – $65,000

The New York State Bar Association, a nonprofit professional association based in Albany, is currently seeking a full-time Senior Accountant.

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for posting journal entries and other financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable and investments, maintaining the general ledger reconciling accounts, budget preparation, and assisting in the annual audit.  Additionally, he/she will assist in preparation and distribution of financial reports and statements, which will include variance analysis with appropriate resolution of discrepancies.

The preferred applicant should have strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail. Bachelor/Master degree in Accounting, 2+ year related experience, and understanding of GAAP are required.  Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite of Office applications, including Excel, is a must. Experience with Salesforce, Sage and Concur is desirable.
