Today, we are launching new endpoints that enable you to Tweet or delete a Tweet using the Twitter API v2. With the manage Tweets endpoints, you can create engaging, impactful, and creative ways for people to participate in the public conversation. Tweeting is fundamental to how people engage on Twitter, and the new manage Tweets endpoints provide a foundational building block for your use of the Twitter API v2.

We heard your feedback about what was missing from v1.1, and have added the ability to post polls, Tweets with reply settings, tag people in images, and Tweet to Super Followers* with this launch.

What these endpoints enable

Whether you’re an independent developer, student, business, or anything in between, the manage Tweets endpoints open up unlimited new use cases on the Twitter API v2. Use these foundational endpoints as a route to learn about APIs, reach or engage with your audience, enable new forms of expression, share critical information, or just have fun.

For example, Brian (@lanewinfield), the developer behind projects like @NYTIMESALLCAPS, @vax_progress, and @chernobylstatus , has built everything from bots that make people laugh, to bots that help people find access to critical COVID vaccine information.

“I build bots on Twitter because it allows me to go from idea to creation in no time and reach a ton of people. After building a bot on Twitter that helps people stay informed on vaccines, I realize just how powerful the platform is. I can’t wait for some of these new features to do even more.” - Brian Moore

Super Follows functionality

We’ve added the ability to share Tweets to Super Followers via the API, so you can build solutions that help people earn monthly revenue from their Twitter content. Super Follows is an opportunity to earn monthly revenue by sharing subscriber-only content with your most engaged followers on Twitter. Through Super Follows, creators like you can offer your most engaged followers an extra level of access and bonus content.

As Super Follows is available to a limited number of creators at this point, the audience for this API functionality is inherently limited today.

However, as Super Follows scales, and more creators can monetize their Tweets, we want you to be prepared with the API functionality you need to build innovative and valuable solutions for creators on Twitter.

Learning from you

Much of the new functionality we added to the new manage Tweets endpoints came from community feedback. You told us what was missing, and we prioritized adding some of the most crucial functionality like polls, tagging people in images, and Tweet reply settings. While we know this isn’t comprehensive, we’re exploring additional features, and want to continue hearing your input.

Stefan (@fourtonfish), the creator of Botwiki and the founder of botmakers.org recently shared, “the thing that’s the most exciting about the new version of Twitter’s API is not really a particular feature, rather it’s seeing Twitter’s renewed commitment to the broader developer community. From sharing a public roadmap to listening to direct feedback and acknowledging and promoting creative uses of their API, I’m looking forward to what the team comes up with next.”

We loved hearing this, and are so grateful for Stefan and the rest of the developer community’s commitment to continuing to build alongside us.

About manage Tweets

The manage Tweets endpoints enable you to Tweet or delete specified Tweets on behalf of an authenticated account. There are two methods available for these endpoints: POST and DELETE. The POST method allows you to create a Tweet, and the DELETE method will enable you to delete a Tweet. For the POST method, you can pass in the parameters you are looking for to enable you to further customize your request.

Since you are making requests on behalf of a user, you must authenticate these endpoints with OAuth 1.0a User Context and use the Access Tokens associated with the user, which can be generated using the 3-legged OAuth flow.

To access these endpoints, you must have an approved developer account. All developers building with the can begin using these endpoints right away at the Basic access level. Be sure to check out our documentation for more information on how to get started. For those of you already using the v1.1 manage Tweets endpoints, we’ve created a migration guide to help ease your transition to the v2 endpoints. Your existing access to v1.1 endpoints will not be affected by using these new endpoints.

What’s next

We’re continuing to add new features and functionality to Twitter API v2. Be sure to keep an eye on our public roadmap for the latest. As always, we’d love to hear what you think. Please reach out with any questions or feedback on what you’d like to see in the future. We are hosting a launch party for this new functionality today at 12 pm PT.

Please note, the ability to Tweet to Super Follows is limited to people with a Super Follows subscription. Requests to post Tweets to Super Follows without an active subscription will result in an error.
