Announcing manage blocks for Twitter API v2

Blocking accounts is core to maintaining the health and safety of the public conversation on Twitter. Today, we are excited to announce the launch of the new manage blocks endpoints into Twitter API v2. With the manage blocks endpoints, you can build safer experiences for people on Twitter or block accounts programmatically based on previous engagements. You can also unblock accounts after a given period of time or based on criteria that you determine.

What’s available

The manage blocks endpoints enable you to block or unblock a specified account on behalf of an authenticated user. For these endpoints, there are two methods available: POST and DELETE. The POST method allows you to block an account, and the DELETE method will enable you to unblock.
Since you are making requests on behalf of an account, you must authenticate these endpoints with OAuth 1.0a User Context and use the Access Tokens associated with the account. These can be generated using the 3-legged OAuth flow. With both endpoints, there is a rate limit of 50 requests per 15 minutes per endpoint.

Get started

Developers with access to the Standard product track or the new Academic Research product track can begin using these endpoints right away. For now, these endpoints are only available at our Basic access level. Be sure to check out our documentation for more information on how to get started.

For those of you already using the v1.1 blocks endpoints, we’ve created a migration guide to help ease your transition to the v2 endpoints. Your existing access to v1.1 endpoints will not be affected by using these new endpoints.
